About This Episode

Let's get outdoorsy as we discuss what the heck we just watched in Severance season 2, episode 4, "Woe's Hollow." Discover some of our favorite fan theories and speculate with us on what will happen next.

WHAT WE KNOW FROM EPISODE 4:

  • Innie Irving wakes up OUTSIDE on a frozen lake! Each member of MDR also wakes nearby, and they all congregate on a cliff overlooking the lake. They discover a TV and prerecorded DVD message from Milchick that tells them this is an ORTBO (outdoor retreat and team-building occurrence) and instructs them to find the previously unrevealed fourth appendix to the Lumon handbook, written by Kier Eagan.
  • Following the directions of strange doppelgangers of themselves, they make their way to Scissor Cave, where they retrieve the fourth appendix. The book reveals that Kier had a twin named Dieter, and they are to follow his path to Woe’s Hollow. Along the way, Irving shares with Mark his suspicion that Helly was lying about what her outie saw during the OTC.
  • Soon, they arrive at Woe's Hollow, a waterfall, and they’re greeted by Milchick and Miss Huang, who have set up a campsite. As they start settling in, Helly comes into Irving’s tent to visit, and he takes the opportunity to ask her what she really saw during her OTC. She dodges the question and leaves the tent. Later that night, they’re sitting around the campfire as Milchick reads from the fourth appendix and Miss Huang plays the theremin. Helly & Mark laugh at the story, offending Milchick, and he punishes them by tossing all their marshmallows in the fire. Mr. Milchick and Miss Huang retire to their tents, and then Helly is confronted by Irving about her suspicious account of her time during the Overtime Contingency. Helly retorts by claiming Irving is bitter about the loss of Burt, causing Irving to storm off into the woods.
  • Mark goes to Helly’s tent where things get ** spicy**, and Mark briefly hallucinates Gemma's head on Helly’s body. Meanwhile, Irving gets lost in the woods and sleeps outside, where he dreams about Burt and the personification of Woe described in the appendix: “a gaunt bride, half the height of a natural woman.”
  • The next morning Irving wakes up and races back to Woe’s Hollow where he finds Helly and confronts her. He drags Helly to the edge of the water and yells for Mr. Milchick. Irv demands him to “turn her back” and begins drowning Helly in Woe's Hollow. It’s at this moment that Milchick says into a radio, “Remove the Glasgow block now.” Helly is revealed to have been Helena Eagan the entire time since her return to MDR, and Milchick is forced to revert her to Helly R. to save her life. Milchick fires Irving, telling him to walk into the forest where he reverts him to his outie.
